‘I was trapped.I’d been raped so many times, abused by hundreds, if not thousands. They could have left every door open and it would have made no difference. And I always came back –they always brought me back.’ From the age of 14, Caitlin was controlled, raped, sold and passed on to new gangs across the UK over and over again. Her abusers were blatant in their attacks upon her, often collecting her from school or home, to be taken to flats they owned, family homes, or hotels booked for the day, to be horrifically and systematically abused. Having finally escaped, Please, Let Me Go is Caitlin’s shocking story of abuse and survival.

Anne Claire Poirier, renowned French-Canadian director, lost Yanne, her 26-year-old daughter, when she was strangled in a drug-related altercation. In this haunting and poetic work, Poirier unearths her daughter's past in an effort to understand her, find a voice for her grief, and learn what pushes young people to risk their lives for the drugs they believe will set them free. Originally the narration to Poirier's film by the same name, the text is at once deeply personal and socially attuned, a brilliant demonstration of an artist's ability to transform pain into dialogue.

One day after reading a book about a wilderness adventurer, David Pierce’s fifteen-year-old daughter Chera announced that she wanted to climb a mountain. What David heard behind that wish was a bold declaration: “I’m growing up, Dad–what are you going to do about it?” A few weeks later they bought matching backpacks. Over a three-year period they climbed five mountains and ran in two marathons. Together they suffered sore muscles, bitter cold, sprung knees, shin splints, and broken spirits. But they also reveled in blazing sunsets, glissaded on a glacier, and celebrated numerous victories great and small. And in the process, they built an unshakable father-daughter bond that will withstand the tests of time. As you read this wise, warmhearted, and often hilarious story of a daughter’s (and a father’s) coming of age, you’ll discover ways you too can create strong, loving relationships with the important people in your life, as you make your way through the valleys and over the summits of life together. This book is about my exciting and wonderful career in the United States Air Force. I listed my various assignment in the order in which they occurred and outlined the major events in my life while at each base. Every assignment had a lot of good points and some that wasn't that great but I tried to focus on the exciting things. A large portion of the book deals with my assignments in Vietnam and events that still haunt me today. The events in the book start when I was a senior in high school trying to talk my Mother into giving me permission to enlist just as soon as I turn 17 years old. I also wrote about some of the interesting things while in high school and about my large family. I felt that it might be of interest to the reader to know that between all my brothers and I we accumulated over 170 years of military service to our country. I ended the book with some events that happened while I was teaching and the jetliner that I observed on 10 Sep 01 practicing for the flight across southern Pennsylvania that crashed on 9/11.

What does a mother do when her teenaged daughter is spinning out of control and nothing is bringing her back? Here is a searingly honest memoir of motherhood and a testament to the power of love and family. When Adair Lara’s daughter Morgan turned thirteen, she was transformed, seemingly overnight, from a sweet, loving child into an angry, secretive teenager who would neither listen nor be disciplined. The author, her youngest son, Patrick, her ex-husband, Jim, and her new husband, Bill, all stepped on a five-year roller-coaster ride in which Morgan incarnated the chaos principle in torn jeans and dyed hair. Drinking, drugging, disappearing, suspicious companions, failing and cheating at school, joy riding in a stolen car–there was no variety of adolescent acting out that she didn’t indulge in. For Adair Lara it became an endless sojourn at the end of her rope, a trial immensely complicated by the reappearance in her life of her aging father, a man who had abandoned his wife and seven children decades earlier. Inevitably, Morgan’s misbehavior revives memories of her own headstrong adolescence, while her father’s presence makes agonizingly real for her the consequences of giving up. Paradoxically, he also becomes the source of her best advice. Hold Me Close, Let Me Go is an emotionally charged, often brutally honest memoir that all parents (and anyone who was ever a teenager) will experience shocks of recognition from while reading. It imparts invaluable lessons about holding loved ones close through the roughest passages and about the power of family to overcome the most grievous obstacles. Adair Lara is a clear-eyed and eloquent witness to the complex costs and rewards of motherhood, and her book will redefine for readers their idea of what being “a good enough mother” really means. From the Hardcover edition.
