At an early age you begin to ask yourself questions. Lots of questions. Some of these questions you can find answers to, but many you tell yourself have no answers, so you tuck them away for another day. That day came for the author when she lost her only child, Breana. The pain was immense and the questions unending. Where is she? Would she see her again? Why isn’t she here for her son? If everything has a purpose, what could the purpose of losing her possibly be? Is there really a God, and what or who is He? For Cyndi life had no reason without her daughter in it. Is this physical world we live in the only reality? If so, what is the point? She became obsessed with finding her and with answering those long-ago questions. When faith is not enough, where do you turn? The things we learn as children become the facts we base our decisions on. Are they true—or just accepted and passed down through time? She began reading intensely. There was an interest in anything written by mediums, psychics, doctors, nurses, scientists, near-death experiencers, and hospice workers; anyone who had something to say on the subject was where she looked. She noticed that early physicists were being quoted in some of the books she was reading. Why? She wanted to learn more. What is this quantum world and how do we fit into it? She realized that greater minds than hers had written these books and she wasn’t sure if she could understand them. The concentration she needed was unavailable to her in the beginning. Determination drove her forward however, and in time the concentration came. She was surprised when she began to see the lines cross between God (not religion) and science. God appeared to be the ultimate scientist and not a god at all. In fact, He is very different from the human god she had learned of as a child. There were many reasons to be afraid of that God. She wondered why she had not come across a book that incorporated all of these subjects into one. Had no one else seen the correlation? Could she write something for her grandson that would help him understand what she now understood so clearly? She began taking notes. Those notes became When You Think About It.

When we meet Shalem, a young woman in her late 30s, she is enduring small talk at a cocktail party hosted by one of her husband’s colleagues. One talks about her breast milk and her twins; another frets about the matronly ass of his girlfriend. Shalem has arrived at the age of no longer young but not old and balancing the in-between. What she wears isn’t cool. What she thinks isn’t cool. She loves her husband but wonders where the passion has gone. When she bumps into the hostess of the party, a writer who has been researching a new play, the playwright reports that experts say any couple still having sex after five years of marriage does so only because of an active fantasy life. At first, that notion is perplexing to Shalem, but the more she thinks about it, the more game she is. When she embraces the idea and fantasizes about a work colleague, it gets things going. But now Shalem has a new plight—navigating between her fantasy world and reality.

An essay collection by a writer who “may be writing under . . . the influence of genius” (Vanity Fair) In Sometimes I Think About It, Stephen Elliott gathers personal essays, reportage, and profiles written over fifteen years to tell a powerful story about outsiders and underdogs. Moving from the self to the civic, the book begins with a series of essays that trace Elliott’s childhood with an abusive and erratic father, his life on the streets as a teenager, and his growing interest in cross-dressing and masochism. These stories, which range from a comic portrait of a week spent hosting his younger brother to a brutal depiction of depression, provide a context for the essays that follow. Stepping out into the world, Elliott tells of a man who loses his family in a rock slide in Southern California, explores the vexing realities of life in Palestine, and paints a chilling picture of a young man caught in the prison-industrial complex. The last section, “The Business of America Is Business,” shows Elliott’s abiding interest in the spectacle of money in America, from pop music to pornography to publishing, and it concludes with an off-kilter account of the tech industry’s assault on West Los Angeles. Building on the extraordinary storytelling that characterized his breakout book, The Adderall Diaries, Elliott’s search for dignity and happiness leads him to tell with great sympathy the stories of those who are broken and seek to be whole.

A Collection of Daily Thoughts The word thought generally refers to any mental or intellectual activity involving an individual's subjective consciousness. It can refer either to the act of thinking or the resulting ideas or arrangement of ideas. Over the past few years I've put my thoughts down on paper and shared them with family and friends. Some said to me "its too long", some said to me "Ive heard that before" and some just said nothing as if my thoughts were delivered and fallen into a black hole. On the other hand there were those who cheered me on and encouraged me to keep distributing my thoughts and consider some day writing a book. "What Do You Think About It" is a labor of love collection of my best 31weekly thoughts for your reading enjoyment. In addition, you can take an active part in my literary endeavor by writing down your thoughts at the end of each chapter. One difference between humans and other animals is our ability to think, process our thoughts and make life changing decisions on the results. As you read and hopefully enjoy my book apply your thoughts to the message intended in each chapter. It's not really our efforts that define us; it's our ability to open our minds and hearts to the depths of our true thoughts and honest feelings. Paracelsus, renaissance period physician, chemist, and surgeon wrote; thoughts are free and subject to no rule. On them rest the freedom of a man and they tower above the light of nature . . . create a new heaven, a new firmament, a new source of energy from which new art flows. This book represents a small piece of my heaven, my new firmament, my new source of energy from which my new art will flow. I hope you enjoy all my thoughts but I don't expect you will just sail away on a literary cruise navigated by everything I've written. So I've provided space at the end of each chapter for your thoughts on each topic. Hence the title, "What Do You Think About It" ...Bon Voyage

How often has the Lord extended mercy unto you and it was simply overlooked? Perhaps you can relate to instances when you did not comprehend just what was going on in the spiritual realm. Why did things develop as they did? This was not the scenario you imagined in your mind. The odds were against you, and the outcome was surprising! God was surrounding you with mercy (compassion), even when you were not aware of His presence in the midst of that situation. Angels were on assignment from the Lord, and things worked out in your favor. That is what My God's Mercy, Now that I Think about It! endeavors to portray. The book contains true stories that begin with family, and people strategically placed in my life by God to bring change, naturally and spiritually. The late Pastor Lillie B. Sanlin is interwoven throughout the book, as she was one of the vessels of honor God used to introduce me to new life in Jesus. Trace my journey carefully; see the hand of God at work so that He gets my attention and the glory. Take a few minutes and think about how God's mercy has prevailed in your life. Now, tell the Lord "Thank you Jesus" for He has been and still is good to you.
