Book Summary

Juan Camarillo (b. ca 1812) was a descendant of Luís Xamarillo, a lieutenant with Hernando Cortez, and Doña Marina or "La Malinche", an Aztec princess who served as an interpreter. Juan Camarillo went to California with the Híjar expedition and, in 1840, he married Martina Hernandez (1825-1897). She was the daughter of María Ortega and Guadalupe Hernandez, descendants of early settlers from Spain. Most descendants mentioned lived in California.
